Although I didn’t think it was relevant to tell you who I am, I would like to let you know the place where I’m staying at the present time: the city of Jeddah.

I believe for many of you this is an unknown place to start with, so let’s begin…

Jeddah is a port city by the Red sea in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, about 70 km away from the holy city of Mecca, sacred city for Muslims all over the world.

With its almost four million inhabitants, many of them workers from very different countries, with or without their families, is the second city in the country after the capital, Ryadh.

We have to consider that Saudi Arabia is almost all of it a desert, where air conditioning is a must. From November to April the weather is spring like while the rest of the year is really hot.

Jeddah is a very modern and vibrant young city with many leisure activities you can enjoy: from shopping to diving, or trips to the desert, etc…

Hotels, rental apartments, cafeterias and restaurants to suit any pocket and any palate. No public transport but instead plenty of taxis. Most of them with English speaking drivers.

If you like shopping you will find here everything money can buy, I like to say jokingly that shopping is a national sport… they have many shopping malls and Tahliya St. is the place to go.

Don’t be surprised if in its long and wide streets and avenues you are passed by a Lamborghini, Porsche, Maserati or Rolls Royce because, this is a very rich country.

Last but not least, you have to take into account, this is a Muslim country, so dressing code is very important. Women are not allowed to show any skin, apart from head, hands and feet. Though neither head scarf nor ‘abaya’ are compulsory anymore. As for men, they cannot wear shorts or bermudas in public.

So, if you ever go there, remember… ‘When in Rome, do as the romans do’!
